The initial step to becoming an Agniveer in the Navy is to clear the INET examination organised in the Computer Based Test (CBT) format. Here are a few important points about the examination that all candidates should know:

- The question paper of the computer-based Examination will be set for one hundred questions in total, and each question will be of one mark only.
- The question paper of the CBT shall be available both in Hindi and English, and the type of questions shall be objective (Multiple choice).
- English, Science, Mathematics and General Awareness will be the four sections asked in the question paper.
- The standard of the question paper in the written test (CBT) will be according to the class XII, and the detailed syllabi can be viewed on the examination website. All the sections of the examination and, in aggregate, the candidates shall pass.
This will be for a wrong answer in the CBT examination. Every question will have four options, and for every wrong response, the total marks assigned for the question will be reduced to a quarter (0. 25) of the value.
Only students qualifying for the INET exam will be allowed to take the second stage, which will be the Physical Fitness Test, Written Test, and Medical Test.
