KAS Exam Syllabus:-

KPSC KAS exam is held in three stages:-

Stage 1: Preliminary Exam – 2 Papers – Objective Type (MCQ)

Stage 2: Practical Exam – 7 Papers – Essay/Descriptive Type (Previously there were 2 optional papers which are no longer used.)

Stage 3: Interview

KAS Preliminary Exam Syllabus

The Gazetteer Probation (Preliminary) Examination examines candidates for the Main Examination. As per the Ninth Amendment Rules 2011 for Probation Officer Recruitment (Recruited by Examination Competition) Gazetted in Karnataka, the KAS Prelims examination has two papers.

In the KAS Prelims curriculum, the level of psychology questions will be 10 standard (SSLC level) and the remaining questions will be at grade level.

According to the KPSC KAS exam pattern, candidates who have completed the KAS Prelim are eligible to take the main exam. The main exam consisted of 9 theoretical papers, 2 of which (Kannada and English) were required.

Except for the special section of Karnataka, there is significant overlap between the UPSC syllabus and the KPSC KAS syllabus

The KAS syllabus for the KPSC Approved Probation Officer (Main) Examination is based on the following: 

  • Kannada
  • English

Qualifying paper’s

  • GS 1: It deals with Indian culture and heritage, Modern Indian history, Medieval India, Indian Society, Politics, and Economy. Among these, GS 1 of IAS Mains includes History and Ethics. 
  • GS 2: The subjects of the field and some issues related to politics and economy are touched upon. These include Politics of Public Service Officer Examination GS 2; GS 1 and GS 3 cover geography and industry respectively. 
  • GS 3; Board topics such as science and technology and the environment are addressed. This topic is also covered in the Civil Services Mains Exam GS 3. 
  • GS 4 – KAS The GS 4 curriculum covers broad topics such as ethics, integrity, and intelligence. Similar subjects form the GS 4 syllabus for the Civil Services examination.
